Cambodia Aims to Strengthen Ties with Malaysia for Regional Peace and Stability

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Prak Sokhonn, paid a courtesy call on Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim. The meeting took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on the afternoon of August 3, 2026, as part of the 3rd Cambodia-Malaysia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) meeting. Deputy Prime Minister Sokhonn conveyed warm regards and best wishes from Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, particularly for his upcoming birthday. During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Sokhonn expressed profound gratitude for Malaysia's active role in maintaining long-term peace and stability in the region, especially in resolving the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict, citing the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord and the establishment of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT). With Cambodia and Malaysia set to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027, Cambodia stands ready to cooperate closely with Malaysia to further strengthen their partnership and contribute to the peace, stability, and prosperity of ASEAN.
