Shwekyin and Madauk townships exceed warning water levels

River water levels in Shwekyin and Madauk townships have exceeded warning levels, according to a release from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology at 8 AM on July 11. The Shwekyin River is over 1 foot above the warning level in Shwekyin town and is expected to rise by about half a foot within the next day, remaining above the warning level. Furthermore, the Sittang River in Madauk town is over 1.5 feet above the warning level and is expected to rise by about 1 foot within the next day, continuing to stay above the warning level. Therefore, residents living near the riverbanks and in low-lying areas within Shwekyin and Madauk townships have been alerted to exercise caution. Additionally, during the second week of July, river water levels are expected to rise by approximately 4 to 6 feet in Myitkyina, Bhamo, Shwegu, Katha, Thabeikkyin, Mandalay, and Sagaing cities for the Ayeyarwady River. For the same river, levels are expected to rise by approximately 5 to 7 feet in Myinmu, Pakokku, Nyaung-U, Chauk, Minbu, Magway, Aunglan, Pyay, Seiktha, Henzada, and Zalun cities. The Chindwin River is projected to rise by approximately 5 to 9 feet above current levels in Kantee, Homalin, Phaungpyin, Mawlike, Kalewa, Minkyin, Kani, and Monywa cities, according to the release. The Myittha River is expected to rise by about 5 feet in Kalay city. The Duwun River is expected to rise by about 2 feet in Thibaw city, and by 2 to 4 feet in Shwesaran and Myitnge cities. The Sittang River is expected to rise by 2 to 4 feet in Taungoo and Madauk cities. The Shwekyin River is expected to rise by about 4.5 feet in Shwekyin city. The Bago River is expected to rise by 3 to 4 feet in Zwegone and Bago cities. The Salween River is expected to rise by about 2 feet in Mawlamyine. The Thanlwin River is expected to rise by about 3 feet in Myawaddy. The Ngawan River is expected to rise by 2 to 3 feet in Gyaing Chaung, Tharpaw, and Pathein cities. The Toungoo River is expected to rise by about 2 feet in Mawlamyine. The Bilin River is expected to rise by about 3 feet in Bilin city, all above their current levels, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
