Vietnam Deploys New Peacekeeping Units to South Sudan, Abyei

Vietnam is reinforcing its commitment to international peacekeeping operations by rotating its units deployed to South Sudan and Abyei. The Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 8 has replaced Rotation 7 under the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in Bentiu. Concurrently, Engineering Unit Rotation 5 has taken over from Rotation 4 at the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA). These deployments highlight Vietnam's active participation in global peace and security efforts. The country officially joined the United Nations in 1977 and has since engaged in international endeavors for peace, security, and development for nearly half a century. Vietnam's peacekeeping forces, in particular, have played a crucial role in projecting the image of a peace-loving and responsible nation, ready to contribute to the UN's common objectives. General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam met with leaders of major US corporations, including Warburg Pincus, Boeing, and Apple, to discuss investment, aviation, and technology cooperation. He also met with Vietnamese experts and intellectuals in the US. A state visit to Canada is also on the horizon, signaling Vietnam's intent to expand its international role and influence. Vietnam's experience in balancing economic growth with social progress and environmental protection is seen as a valuable lesson for fostering trust and enhancing multilateralism, according to the UN Development Programme (UNDP). In other news, the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) will host the 59th Executive Board Meeting of the Organisation of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) in Vietnam in 2027.
