Vietnam Focuses on Accelerating Economic Growth in Second Half to Meet 10% Target

At the 3rd Plenum of the 14th Party Central Committee, General Secretary and President To Lam hailed the 8.18% GDP growth in the first half of 2024 as a "positive result." However, he underscored that the target of at least 10% annual growth remains a "very challenging task." He emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to achieve this goal and laying the foundation for sustainable double-digit growth by 2026. Specifically, he indicated that accelerating economic growth in the second half of the year is an urgent priority. The meeting also touched upon efforts in the central province of Ha Tinh to maintain its economic growth momentum. Ha Tinh is working to khai thác (exploit/utilize) new growth drivers and is determined to achieve its rapid and sustainable growth targets. General Secretary and President To Lam expressed his expectation that Ha Tinh will "awaken its aspiration for development and demonstrate its determination to achieve rapid and sustainable growth objectives." Despite facing global economic uncertainties and domestic structural challenges, Vietnam's economy continues to grow, driven by both export-led growth and the recovery of domestic demand. The government is promoting improvements in the investment environment and structural reforms while balancing inflation control and growth promotion. Achieving the ambitious 10% annual growth target will depend on international economic trends, the effectiveness of domestic policy implementation, and the specific initiatives undertaken by various provinces.
