Cases vs Rhian Ramos, Michelle Dee Junked for Lack of Evidence

The Makati prosecutor’s office has dismissed a string of cases filed by a driver, identified only as Totoy, against actress Rhian Ramos, Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Dee, Miss Earth Water 2021 Samantha Panlilio, and Dee’s bodyguards. The dismissal was based on insufficient evidence. Totoy had charged the celebrities and Dee’s bodyguards with illegal detention, slight physical injuries, maltreatment, and unlawful arrest. He alleged that he was locked inside a condominium unit in Makati from January 17 to 19 for supposedly stealing an angpao (red envelope) containing sensitive photos. In a resolution dated September 1, Makati senior assistant prosecutor Mikhail Maverick Tumacder dismissed the cases, stating that the complainant failed to establish that he was forced to stay in the condo unit. The prosecution deemed the complainant’s allegations of detention insufficient to charge the respondents. The Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC), which is assisting Totoy, has vowed to challenge the prosecutor’s decision. Meanwhile, Dee’s lawyer, Maggie Abraham-Garduque, lauded the dismissal of the complaints in a statement sent to The STAR.
