Cambodia Denounces Thai Border Sovereignty Violations, Strengthens Security and Natural Resource Protection

The Cambodian military has expressed strong concern over ongoing alleged violations of its sovereignty and territorial integrity by the Thai military in border areas. During a meeting held on August 31, 2026, at the Kampong Thom Provincial Military Operations Area Command, Major General Som Sun stated that the Thai side has repeatedly violated ceasefire agreements by constructing infrastructure, roads, trenches, and barbed wire in a manner that infringes upon Cambodian sovereignty and territory. Major General Som Sun noted that the Cambodian government is striving to make the reality of illegal invasion and occupation by Thailand in certain areas along the Cambodia-Thailand border clearer to the international community. He emphasized that this constitutes a serious violation of sovereignty, human rights, and the right to life of Cambodian citizens, as Thai soldiers have illegally entered and occupied some of their homes and land. In light of this, Major General Som Sun praised the efforts of the soldiers of the Kampong Thom Provincial Military Operations Area Command in defending territorial integrity, cracking down on natural resource crimes, and actively participating in the implementation of the government's 'Safe Village-Commune-District' policy. He also issued several orders to the soldiers, emphasizing absolute loyalty to the nation, religion, and the King; willingness to make sacrifices for the country and the defense of its territory and people; strict adherence to orders from the government and all levels of military leadership; effective prevention and suppression of natural resource crimes; and enhanced cooperation with armed forces and local authorities. The officers, non-commissioned officers, and soldiers of the Kampong Thom Provincial Military Operations Area Command pledged to strictly abide by and effectively implement the orders of all levels of leadership of the armed forces and the commander of the Kampong Thom Provincial Military Operations Area, ensuring the success of their assigned duties.
