Globe Sets P99 Entry Price for Starlink Satellite-to-Mobile Service in Philippines
Globe Telecom in the Philippines is launching its Starlink-powered satellite-to-mobile service, with prepaid access starting at P99. The service aims to provide essential connectivity like SMS and app-based calls to users in remote areas where traditional mobile networks are unavailable.
Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc. on Wednesday announced the pricing structure for its Starlink-powered satellite-to-mobile service, positioning the technology as a low-cost connectivity option for users in remote areas, with prepaid access starting at P99. In a news release, Globe said its prepaid and Touch Mobile (TM) subscribers can access the Starlink satellite-powered service for P99 starting June 30, 2026. The entry-level offering is intended for users in areas beyond the reach of traditional terrestrial mobile networks. Last week, Globe officially launched the Philippines' first commercially approved satellite-to-mobile, or direct-to-cell (DTC), service in partnership with Starlink. For postpaid subscribers on Plan 1499 and above, as well as Globe Platinum users, the Starlink service will be included in their existing plans at no additional cost. Globe is also offering a tiered free trial, with eligible postpaid subscribers receiving three months of complimentary access and Platinum subscribers enjoying one year of free service. The service is designed for communities, travelers, and field workers in remote locations where conventional mobile signals are weak or unavailable. Using the Starlink satellite network, customers with compatible devices can access SMS, app-based voice calls, navigation, digital payments, and other essential online services in areas without standard telecom infrastructure. "With Globe Starlink, connection will go further, helping every Filipino stay connected wherever life takes them," said Eric Tanbauco, Globe's Consumer Mobile Business vice president. "Reliable connectivity today is no longer just about convenience. It gives people confidence to move forward, pursue opportunities, and stay connected during the moments that matter most. Connectivity should not stop where towers end," he added. The satellite service is currently available only on compatible Android and HarmonyOS devices. Globe said users with supported handsets can send SMS and access navigation services and digital applications such as Viber, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, eGov PH, GCash, and GlobeOne. Support for iOS devices is expected in a future update. Before the commercial rollout, Globe conducted technical pilot tests in remote areas of Rizal, Batangas, and Bataan.
