AYEYARWADY TIMES July 11 India is building a fence along the 1,610-kilometer India-Myanmar border at a cost equivalent to 31,000 crore rupees, which is over 3.5 billion US dollars, Indian Home Minister Amit Shah said on Thursday. He said that India's border security system, built in line with the Indian central government's smart border vision, will become the most promising and advanced in the world in the coming years, and that there is a need to transition from separate border outposts to an integrated security network. He stated that the government is determined to control abnormal population growth due to non-natural reasons, and that illegal infiltration is the main reason for the change in the demographic structure of the border areas. He further added that the Indian government's objectives include preventing proxy wars, illegal infiltration, extremism, drug smuggling, drone threats, cybercrime, gang crime, and demographic changes, as well as making border areas more livable and preventing migration from these areas. Shah said that a comprehensive framework will be pursued for coastal border security, and a strong security network is being built with the cooperation of defense forces, state and district administrations, relevant ministries, and local people. He stated that the nation can be secured only through the cooperation of a secure border, developed border areas, and vigilant citizens. He said that efforts are being made to completely prevent infiltration into the country, and while past problems were always present and solutions were temporary, the government is eradicating the root cause of the problem and implementing sustainable solutions.
