CIMB Bank Affirms Continued Support for Promoting Khmer Riel Usage and Business Expansion in Cambodia
Cambodia's central bank announced that CIMB Group executives reaffirmed the bank's ongoing commitment to promoting the use of the Khmer Riel and expanding its business operations in Cambodia. CIMB also presented plans for introducing new financial products and services.
The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) announced that senior executives from Malaysia's CIMB Group met with the NBC and affirmed the bank's commitment to promoting the use of the Khmer Riel (KHR) and expanding its business operations in Cambodia. On September 18, NBC Governor Dr. Chea Serey met with Datuk Syed Zaid Bin Syed Jaffar Albar, Chairman of CIMB Group, and Muhammad Novan Bin Amirudin, Group CEO of CIMB, at the NBC's Wat Phnom building. During the discussion, Mr. Muhammad Novan Bin Amirudin, Group CEO of CIMB, reaffirmed CIMB's continued support for promoting the use of the Khmer Riel and its commitment to further expand and develop its business operations in Cambodia. Mr. Muhammad Novan Bin Amirudin briefed the NBC on the progress of CIMB's operations in Cambodia and presented plans for the introduction of new financial products and services to meet customer and market demands. The discussion also involved an exchange of views on the economic situation, challenges, developments in the banking sector, and opportunities arising from changes in regional and global production structures. Dr. Chea Serey welcomed CIMB's commitment to continue investing in and developing its operations in Cambodia. She emphasized the importance of the banking sector in supporting business and production activities through efficient financial service provision and by promoting financial connectivity within the region. The Governor also highly valued the progress in developing the Cambodia-Malaysia bilateral cross-border payment system, noting its significance in facilitating cross-border payments, strengthening financial connectivity between the two countries, and promoting the use of local currencies in line with the development of digital payment systems in the region.
