50 US Firms Eye Luzon Economic Corridor Investments
Approximately 50 US companies are exploring investment opportunities in the Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC), with Subic Bay poised to become a key western gateway for logistics, maritime services, and technology investments, announced the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA).
SUBIC BAY FREEPORT, Philippines — About 50 US companies are exploring investment opportunities in the Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC), with Subic Bay positioned as a key western gateway for logistics, maritime services and technology investments, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) announced on Sunday. The companies were part of a delegation led by Thomas Hardy. SBMA chair and administrator Jonathan Malaya said the US firms are looking at Subic Bay as a potential hub for their investments in the country. "We are looking at Subic Bay as a major gateway for logistics, maritime services, and technology investments," Malaya said. He added that the US firms are interested in various sectors, including manufacturing, renewable energy, and information technology. The Luzon Economic Corridor is a government initiative aimed at developing the economic potential of Luzon Island, the largest and most populous island in the Philippines. The project involves improving infrastructure, streamlining business processes, and creating a more attractive investment environment for both local and foreign investors. Subic Bay, a former US naval base, has been transformed into a freeport zone and has become a major hub for manufacturing, logistics, and tourism. Malaya expressed optimism that the US firms' interest will translate into concrete investments, which will create jobs and boost the Philippine economy. "We are confident that this will lead to significant investments that will benefit the Filipino people," he said. He also mentioned that the SBMA is working closely with other government agencies to ensure that the investment process is smooth and efficient for the US companies. The agency is also looking at attracting investments from other countries, as part of its broader strategy to make Subic Bay a premier investment destination in Southeast Asia. The initiative is part of the Marcos administration's broader economic agenda, which aims to attract more foreign investment and create more jobs for Filipinos. The Philippines has been actively promoting its investment opportunities to foreign investors, highlighting its strategic location, skilled workforce, and growing domestic market. The government has also been working to improve the ease of doing business in the country, by streamlining regulations and reducing red tape. The Luzon Economic Corridor is expected to play a crucial role in the country's economic recovery and growth in the coming years.
