UBON RATCHATHANI, Thailand – A pregnant woman gave birth safely in a pickup truck after arriving at a local health clinic in advanced labor, with medical staff quickly stepping in to deliver the baby. The incident happened at about 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 14 at Yang Lum Health Promoting Hospital in Rai Noi subdistrict, Mueang Ubon Ratchathani district. The woman had travelled to the health facility by pickup truck while experiencing severe labor pains. After examining her condition, medical and public health staff found that she was already in advanced labor and that the baby’s head had emerged. With little time to spare, the medical team immediately provided assistance and carried out the delivery in the pickup truck where the woman had arrived. The baby was delivered safely at 9:49 a.m., weighing 2,955 grams at birth. Health staff provided initial care for both the mother and newborn before contacting Thailand’s emergency medical service through hotline 1669 to arrange transportation and continued medical care. The incident highlighted the readiness of the Yang Lum health team to respond to emergencies and provide timely assistance when patients arrive in critical situations. “Every minute matters because the safety of mother and baby is our priority,” the health team said. This event underscores the critical role of frontline healthcare workers and the effectiveness of Thailand's emergency medical services, particularly in rural areas where access to advanced medical facilities can be challenging.
