Cambodian Information Minister Receives Medicine Donation from Student Association for Flood Victims

Minister of Information Net Pheaktra received a donation of medicine from the Cambodian Medical Innovation Student Association on September 1, 2026, at the Ministry of Information, to be distributed to flood-affected citizens in Kratie province. Dr. Sao Sambour, advisor to the Ministry of Information and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cambodian Medical Innovation Student Association, presented the donation. He informed the Minister that the association, recently established, had pooled donations from its leadership, members, and female members to purchase various medicines for humanitarian activities and to assist citizens affected by floods in Kratie. The medicines donated included 10 boxes of Bromhexine 8mg, 20 boxes of Bitrim 480mg, 20 boxes of Anti Cold, 4 boxes of Paracetamol 500mg, and 100 boxes of Vit Trivit (B1, B6, B12). Minister Net Pheaktra, on behalf of the leadership and all civil servants of the Ministry of Information, expressed his profound gratitude to the Cambodian Medical Innovation Student Association for the valuable donation of medicine. He stated that this noble gesture demonstrated the association's noble spirit, care, and high contribution to charitable work and social affairs through the Ministry of Information. The Minister emphasized that the medicine donation is a significant contribution in the spirit of "Khmer helps Khmer" and collective effort to alleviate the hardships of the affected population, reflecting solidarity and a culture of sharing within Cambodian society. Minister Net Pheaktra also briefed on the flood situation in Kratie province, noting that it was caused by both the Mekong River and rainfall, resulting in damage to property, homes, and vast hectares of crops, as well as loss of life. He specified that Kratie province experienced two types of floods: from the Mekong River and from heavy rainfall, posing numerous difficulties for residents in certain areas. As the head of the government working group for Kratie province, Minister Net Pheaktra urged citizens to remain highly vigilant, especially to closely monitor young children and prevent them from playing in the water without supervision to avoid potential accidents. Furthermore, he instructed local authorities to continue disseminating information and educating the public about flood dangers, preventive measures, and risk mitigation, as well as raising awareness about preventing infectious diseases and other health issues that may arise during and after floods. Once again, the head of the government working group for Kratie province advised farmers in the province to shift from relying solely on traditional farming practices to adopting modern agricultural techniques, monitoring weather information, and diversifying crops to reduce risks and losses caused by floods and climate change.
