Thailand Cracks Down on Foreigners with Bad Behavior, Vows Stricter Enforcement

Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Thursday defended the deportation of foreigners engaging in "bad behavior" under new Interior Ministry regulations, stating that "the law is already in place, so it must be enforced." Anutin confirmed that a French national has been deported under the new rules, making them the second foreigner to be expelled after an Israeli national. When asked about the appeal process for the Israeli national, Anutin said the individual would have to appeal directly to the prime minister, as the deportation order was signed by the Interior Minister. "I have not yet seen the appeal letter," he told reporters at Parliament. "The process requires the individual to submit an appeal to the prime minister for consideration." Anutin indicated that more foreigners on a watchlist could face deportation if their conduct is deemed inappropriate. When asked about the legalities of foreign nationals establishing cemeteries on Thai soil, Anutin stated he was not certain of the detailed legal requirements but stressed that "the feelings of Thai people should also be taken into consideration."
