Indonesian Islamic Congress Strongly Condemns LGBTQ Practices

The Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), KH Anwar Iskandar, has strongly condemned the practices of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ). Anwar conveyed this condemnation in his speech during the opening of the 8th Indonesian Islamic Congress (KUII) in Jakarta on Friday (24/7). He expressed his hope that the congress would issue recommendations that clearly and firmly reject such practices in the country. "We hope that this congress will issue recommendations that are very clear and firm in our rejection of LGBT practices in this country," Anwar stated in his speech. Anwar described LGBTQ behavior as contrary to religious laws and propriety. He also suggested that the phenomenon is a source of various dangerous diseases. "It is not in accordance with the dignity and honor of a human being; it degrades human dignity," he said. Concurrently, Anwar thanked the government for its stance in issuing regulations that declare LGBTQ as part of the threat to national security. He mentioned that all ulema in Indonesia are paying full attention and that the LGBTQ issue is a concern for the ulema. "We do not want our nation to be cursed by Allah SWT like the people of Prophet Lut in the past, because they engaged in very abnormal practices," he stated. Source: CNN Indonesia
