Prabowo Won't Intervene in Legal Cases of Close Associates: Habiburokhman

Habiburokhman, Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), has asserted that President Prabowo Subianto will not intervene in any legal proceedings. He stated that during internal party meetings, Prabowo has repeatedly warned party members against violating the law, making it clear that he will not offer any assistance or intervention if they are implicated. These remarks were made during a continuation of the bill on asset forfeiture at Commission III of the DPR on Monday (20/7), which was attended by several experts and practitioners. Habiburokhman, who also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Gerindra Party, to which President Prabowo belongs, highlighted a past case involving the Ombudsman Chairman, Hery Susanto. He emphasized that even if someone is a former party member or official, the President would not intervene. "The Ombudsman Chairman, Hery Susanto, was a former cadre of ours, even a former DPP official, and when he was arrested by the prosecutor's office, there was no intervention whatsoever from the President," Habiburokhman stated. "Let alone for people who are not close to him." Previously, Hotman Paris, the lawyer for the former Special Director of Investigations (Jampidsus), Febrie Adriansyah, claimed that the case involving his client was a form of "criminalization" and expressed dismay at Febrie's current situation. Hotman pointed out that Febrie had achieved remarkable success during his tenure as Jampidsus, saving vast state assets and becoming a source of pride for President Prabowo. "The Jampidsus is someone President Prabowo was proud of. He recovered state losses amounting to Rp130 trillion, plus Rp300 trillion from the PKH Task Force, totaling Rp430 trillion returned to the state.
