The National Unity Government (NUG) In Sagaing Region, battalions in Monywa District conducted a wreath-laying event in memory of the martyrs including General Aung San, who had sacrificed their lives while fighting for independence. Union Prime Minister of the NUG Man Win Khine Than called on the military junta to prove that State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is still alive. In Minbu District of Magway Region, the People’s Defence Forces conducted events on the 79th Martyrs’ Day themed – ‘History never dies for every martyr’. In Natoegyi Township of Mandalay Region, Myingyan District Battalion 4/10 conducted guerrilla attacks and drone attacks on 4 junta’s stations. Acting President of the NUG Duwa Lashi La stated that all the revolutionary comrades including PDF members, political prisoners in arbitrary detention including State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all those fighting the military dictatorship are live heroes or martyrs. Under the Ministry of Defence-NUG, PDFs saluted the martyrs. Revolution Activities In Kani Township, revolutionary organizations and forces conducted an event on the 79th Martyrs’ Day. To commemorate the 79th Martyrs’ Day, Strike Committee of Chindwin Riverside Villages carried out a public movement. According to Rangoon Scout Network (RSN), 413 people have been arrested in Yangon Region in the first half of 2026. In Hpakant of Kachin State, a combined rally of local people and strike committee conducted an event on the 79th Martyrs’ Day. They also expressed their objection to the Myitsone Dam Project. At 10:37 am on Martyrs’ Day, vehicles in Yangon Region stopped for a while and sounded their horns to honour the martyrs including General Aung San. In commemoration of the 79th Martyrs’ Day, Sagaing Regional Strike Group will conduct a ‘Black-Shirt Campaign’ for five days from July 19 to 23. In Myaing Township of Magway Region, local groups, teachers, students and the public conducted an event on the 79th Martyrs’ Day even amidst the junta’s invasion. On Saturday, (123) civil society organizations sent an open letter to ASEAN, calling not to allow the Myanmar military junta to host meetings on the natural environment and climate. Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) Karenni National People’s Liberation Front has provided training to equip their members with political and military skills. According to Wa News Land, the General Secretary of United Wa State Army said that the overuse of explosives and chemicals in some mining businesses caused losses in terms of health and lives. The Military Junta In Yangon, an event was conducted at the Mausoleum with tight security measures on the 79th Martyrs’ Day. Present on the occasion was the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing. However, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, daughter of the architect of independence General Aung San, was not allowed to join it. The junta leader claimed that Myanmar could become a nation that stands shoulder to shoulder with the international community if every citizen unitedly brightened their own corner during his administration. Keeping the daughter of General Aung San in detention, the junta leader superficially greeted the families of the martyrs who were present at the event on the 79th Martyrs’ Day. The Chairman of the Buildings Restoration, Utilization, and New Buildings Construction Supervision Committee and the junta’s Minister for Construction U Myo Thant inspected the project site of the new Constitutional Tribunal building, damaged by the major earthquake. The military junta provided the training to raise awareness on countering money laundering and financial support for terrorism. The military junta announced that the General Aung San Museum in Yangon and General’s Home Museum in Natmauk had been opened to the public.
