Murder occurred due to disagreement during purchase of car spare parts, perpetrator arrested

It has been learned from the police force that a murder case occurred in Shwe Nyaung town, southern Shan State, due to a disagreement during the purchase of car spare parts, and the perpetrator was arrested in a short period. Around 8:30 AM on July 30, 2026, information was received that U Khin Maung Nyo (aka Ko Phoe Tout), 58, son of U Bo Lay, who runs a car spare parts shop named "Japan" located at House No. 71, Ward 2, Dethasiddhi Quarter, Shwe Nyaung town, and his wife Daw Yin Yin U, 57, daughter of U Sein, sustained swelling and bleeding injuries to their faces. Upon inspecting the scene, it was discovered that Daw Yin Yin U, the shop owner's wife, was found lying in a pool of blood behind the glass display case containing goods inside the car spare parts shop, with three stab wounds to the left side of her neck and one stab wound to the left shoulder (serious). It was also found that U Khin Maung Nyo (aka U Phoe Tout), the shop owner, was lying in a pool of blood between the shelves where goods were placed, with a laceration on his forehead, a laceration below his right eye, a laceration on the top of his head, and a stab wound to the neck (serious). Both individuals were sent to Shwe Nyaung Township Hospital with a police medical certificate at 8:45 AM. Daw Yin Yin U died from the injuries sustained at the scene, and her body was subsequently transferred to Sao San Htun Hospital in Taunggyi city at 8:55 AM. Upon arrival at the hospital at 9:20 AM, the body of the deceased Daw Yin Yin U was received and examined by the chief forensic physician (PR-04), while the injured U Khin Maung Nyo (aka U Phoe Tout) is receiving medical treatment. In order to apprehend the perpetrator, CCTV footage from nearby houses and investigations of neighboring houses were conducted. According to the CCTV footage, a male, approximately 20 years old, wearing a black shirt and black trousers, walked along Yadanar Road from the direction of Shwe Nyaung Union Highway, passed the intersection of Nibban Road, walked back, turned into Nibban Road, entered the "Japan" car spare parts shop with a mask covering his face, and did not come out. Based on this CCTV record, detailed investigations were carried out at the scene and surrounding houses by the Shwe Nyaung area police station chief. It was learned that at 9:05 AM, the perpetrator, Thant Zin Phyo, 20, son of U Than Zaw and mother Daw Aye Khine, residing in the lower floor of a house one compound north of the scene, was hiding under the beam. He was arrested by local police officers and members of the People's Militia Force (PLAFA) within a short period. Subsequently, upon interrogation of the perpetrator, it was revealed that he was dissatisfied with a dispute that occurred about two days prior when he complained about the high price of car spare parts. He then used a pointed knife, approximately 8 inches long, which he had with him, to stab the shop owner's wife, Daw Yin Yin U, about four times in the neck. When the shop owner, U Khin Maung Nyo (aka U Phoe Tout), arrived, he attempted to stab him, but U Khin Maung Nyo (aka U Phoe Tout) resisted, causing the knife to bend. He then struck U Khin Maung Nyo (aka U Phoe Tout) on the head with a car spare part joint, approximately 8 inches long and 1 inch in circumference. Therefore, the perpetrator, Thant Zin Phyo, 20, son of U Than Zaw, had the knife, approximately 8 inches long, and the car spare part joint, approximately 1 inch in circumference, confiscated as evidence. A case has been opened and is being investigated at the Shwe Nyaung area police station.
