Authorities said gunfire erupted around 3:50 a.m. after suspect Muhamad Taparan Pasandalan allegedly fired at the operating team as they approached his residence in Barangay New Panay to implement search warrants issued on June 19 by Executive Judge Rainera Osua of the Regional Trial Court Branch 28 in Midsayap. The operating team returned fire, wounding Pasandalan, who was taken to Aleosan District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Recovered from Pasandalan were two .45-caliber pistols, ammunition, and 15 sachets of suspected shabu (methamphetamine) valued at approximately P552,932.48. From one of the fleeing suspects, a .45-caliber pistol and three large sachets of suspected shabu were also recovered. In the residence of Sakib and Sapal, who were not present during the warrant service, police seized a Colt MK IV .45-caliber pistol, a handheld radio, and four sachets of suspected shabu worth around P136,000. The recovered evidence has been turned over to the Cotabato Provincial Forensic Unit in Kidapawan City for forensic and ballistic examination. Police are preparing criminal charges for alleged violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act and the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act against the three suspects still at large. "We will continue to conduct intelligence-driven, lawfully executed operations to protect our communities," Nartatez added, highlighting the importance of ongoing efforts to combat illegal drugs and firearms in the southern Philippines.
