Vinh Long Province Cracks Down on Substandard Fuel Sales, Imposes Over 1.73 Billion VND in Fines

In Vietnam's southern province of Vinh Long, authorities have intensified their oversight of gasoline and oil product sales businesses since the beginning of the year, strictly addressing cases of selling products that do not meet quality standards. On August 7, the provincial Market Management Department announced that seven cases of quality violations had been detected so far, resulting in administrative fines totaling over 1.73 billion VND (approximately $73,000 USD). According to the Market Management Department, since the beginning of the year, a total of 56 samples, including 30 gasoline and 26 oil samples, have been collected for quality testing. The results indicated that nine samples, comprising four gasoline and five oil samples, failed to meet national technical standards or declared standards. Furthermore, results for 13 other samples are still pending. Among the seven detected violations, notable cases include N.N. Gas Station, which was fined over 87 million VND for selling diesel oil that did not meet sulfur content standards. D.K. Limited Liability Company received a substantial fine of nearly 855 million VND for selling substandard quality diesel oil; the company had reportedly paid part of the fine by mid-July. Additionally, U.L. Commercial Services Limited Liability Company was fined over 324 million VND for selling E5 RON 92-II gasoline and diesel oil that did not meet technical standards for benzene and sulfur content. The Market Management Department stated that it will continue to coordinate with relevant agencies to enhance inspections and monitoring of gasoline and oil product sales businesses. They will maintain strict handling of violations while stepping up awareness campaigns on legal compliance for businesses to protect consumer interests and stabilize the market. As Vietnam experiences economic growth and increasing energy demand, ensuring product quality remains a key challenge. Fuel quality directly impacts vehicle performance and environmental conditions, prompting authorities to implement stringent monitoring systems. Measures like the current strict penalties are intended to act as a deterrent against fraudulent activities and underscore the government's commitment to fostering a healthy domestic market.
