Thai Weightlifter Teerapong Silachai Secures Asian Games Bronze

NAGOYA, Japan — September 24, 2026, Thailand’s Teerapong Silachai clinched the bronze medal in the men’s 60kg weightlifting event at the 20th Asian Games held in Nagoya. Teerapong, who is also the silver medalist from the Paris 2024 Olympics, faced an early challenge in the snatch portion of the competition, failing on his first two attempts. However, he successfully lifted 126kg on his third and final attempt, averting a disappointing start. In the clean and jerk, Teerapong demonstrated his strength by lifting 173kg. This brought his total to 299kg, enough to secure the bronze medal. The gold medal went to China's Yang Yang, who achieved a total of 304kg with lifts of 138kg in the snatch and 166kg in the clean and jerk, setting a new Asian Games record. North Korea's Pak Un-chol secured the silver medal with a total of 301kg, lifting 126kg in the snatch and 174kg in the clean and jerk, also setting a new Asian Games record. This bronze medal adds another significant international achievement to Teerapong's impressive record, following his Olympic silver medal in Paris in 2024.
