580 sqm Villa Inspired by Mekong Delta Houseboats Completed in Dong Thap

A 580 square meter villa, drawing inspiration from the traditional houseboats of the Mekong Delta, has been completed in Dong Thap province, Vietnam. This residence aims to be a resort-like living space by separating functional areas and connecting them with verandas and gardens. From the outside, the building presents a discreet appearance with its wooden gate, stone walls, and sloping tiled roof. The architectural form is inspired by the houseboats of the Mekong Delta's waterways, evident in the varying floor and roof elevations across different sections. Over 10,000 hand-cut natural stones were used for the villa's perimeter walls. These stones, with their diverse shades, create a private enclosure and serve as a backdrop for the internal greenery. According to the design team, the project prioritizes the experience of movement, light, wind, and greenery over ostentatious forms. As the trees mature, the landscape will further enhance privacy and reduce radiation for the living spaces. Instead of organizing the floor plan into a single solid block, the design team divided the house into separate functional zones. The living room, kitchen-dining area, bedrooms, and utility areas are interconnected by long verandas, promoting air circulation and reducing feelings of confinement. The inner courtyard acts as a transitional space between the communal living area and the bedroom block. Large trees, a green carpet, and stone-paved pathways define boundaries without the need for walls. The living room is situated under a high, sloping roof with large glass windows on both sides, expanding the view of the garden and allowing natural light to enter the communal living space. Inside the living room, wood, natural stone, and stone-patterned tiles are used consistently. The kitchen-dining area is located adjacent to the garden, connected to the veranda by sliding glass doors. Pendant lights add a subtle accent to the overall palette of wood brown, beige, and green. The master bedroom offers views of the tropical garden. Full-length glass windows allow ample light and create a separation between the interior furnishings and the green expanse outside. The dressing room and bathrooms feature abundant use of dark wood, complemented by marble and glass. The bathroom includes an opening overlooking a private garden, ensuring ventilation while maintaining privacy. Additionally, the house has an outdoor shower area that harmoniously blends natural stone walls with green spaces. The use of jade green in details such as the headboard partition, seat cushions, stone side tables, and decorative items helps balance the house between the deep wood tones and the characteristic sunlight of the southern region.
