The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in Banteay Meanchey province has launched a campaign to replant flooded forests, aiming to strengthen the sustainable conservation of aquatic resources and ensure food security for the community. The tree-planting event took place on July 17, 2026, in Stueng Kombut village, Rohal commune, Preah Net Preah district, Banteay Meanchey province. It was led by Mrs. Orn Sitha, Acting Director of the Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, along with officials from the Fisheries Administration and the active participation of approximately 60 individuals, including teachers, students, and local residents. During this campaign to foster environmental consciousness, 600 saplings of flooded forest trees, which are crucial for providing habitat and food for aquatic life, were officially planted. These included 100 Rung Tuek trees, 200 Tras trees, 200 Khnay Mean trees, and 100 Kumpem trees. Following the planting, the Acting Director inspected the scope and potential of the Stueng Kombut Aquatic Resource Conservation area. This core zone spans 78 hectares and is surrounded by 197 hectares of flooded forest, serving as a vital strategic area for protection and as a spawning ground for fish. "Flooded forests are the life source of aquatic resources. Without flooded forests, there would be no safe habitat for fish to spawn and grow," stated the Fisheries Administration. On this occasion, Mrs. Orn Sitha made a fervent appeal to all citizens to jointly protect and conserve the remaining flooded forests. She urged strict adherence to the Fisheries Law and the cessation of illegal fishing gear use, advocating for a return to family-based fishing equipment in line with current regulations. This, she emphasized, will ensure that these abundant aquatic resources are preserved for future generations. To encourage efforts and participation in environmental protection, after the tree-planting activity, the Acting Director distributed study materials and some funds to the teachers and students, recognizing them as the "bamboo shoots that will succeed the bamboo" in future natural resource conservation.
