Fishing Boat Collides with Rowboat Off Vietnam Coast, One Dead
A collision between a fishing boat and a rowboat off the coast of Lam Dong province, Vietnam, resulted in one fatality among six people on the rowboat. Rescue operations were conducted, and the missing person was found, but a life was lost.
On September 12, a maritime accident occurred off the coast of Lam Dong province in central Vietnam, where a fishing boat collided with a rowboat, resulting in one death. The accident took place early in the morning in the waters off Hai Tan village, Phan Rí Cửa commune. The fishing boat BTh 99632 TS, over 16 meters long with a capacity of 572 CV, captained by Mr. Đinh Tài (45 years old, resident of Phan Rí Cửa commune), collided with a rowboat carrying six people near the sea entrance of Hai Tan village. Following the collision, all individuals on the rowboat fell into the sea. The fishing boat immediately rescued five people, but Mr. Võ Văn Dậu (32 years old, resident of Phan Rí Cửa commune) remained missing. Upon receiving the report, the Region 7 Firefighting and Rescue Team dispatched one rescue vehicle and seven officers to the scene. In coordination with the Phan Rí Cửa Commune Police and the Hòa Minh Border Guard Station, they implemented measures to search for the missing person. Around 9:40 AM, the missing victim was found and handed over to the relevant authorities and family. This incident highlights the importance of safety management in fishing activities and for small vessels in Vietnam's coastal areas. Ensuring navigation safety, especially between large vessels like fishing boats and more vulnerable rowboats, will be a future challenge. Under Vietnam's one-party system, the government leads such safety regulation enhancements and thorough dissemination, but compliance at the field level will be questioned.
