Singer Nhat Huyen Sings of Vietnam in Peacetime

Classical music singer Nhat Huyen has released "Màu của đất nước, màu của hòa bình" (Colors of the Homeland, Colors of Peace), an album featuring eight songs about Vietnam's land, people, and life in peacetime. The songs, composed by Ta Duy Tuan, explore various facets of Vietnamese life, from historical narratives to images of the homeland and its people, and reflections on life in peacetime. Nhat Huyen shared that she sought not only the grandeur often found in patriotic songs but also more intimate and lyrical elements, such as memories of family and loved ones. The title track, "Màu của đất nước, màu của hòa bình," was performed with a symphony orchestra. For Nhat Huyen, the value of peace is evident in the simplest things: returning home, living with loved ones, studying, working, loving, and pursuing dreams. Thus, she chose to tell stories through the imagery of people working, nurturing their families, and contributing to the community. She acknowledged the challenge of creating a project on the homeland, given the numerous impactful works by previous generations of artists on the same theme. Her focus was not on surpassing predecessors but on singing with her own experiences and emotions. During the recording process, Nhat Huyen was often moved to tears, pausing to reflect on the generations who sacrificed for the nation. "Artists can contribute their voices through art to ensure these stories continue to be remembered," she stated. Nhat Huyen, 44, hails from Thai Binh province and is currently a lecturer at the Military University of Culture and Arts. While capable of singing various genres like folk, pop, and ballads, she specializes in semi-classical music. She received an encouragement award at the Sao Mai competition in 2003 and released the chamber classical album "Ave Maria" in 2017.
