Cambodia: Svay Rieng Province Hosts Government Working Group Meeting to Review First Half and Plan for Second Half of 2026

A meeting was held in Svay Rieng Province, southeastern Cambodia, to review the work results of the first half of 2026 and formulate plans for the second half by the government's working group. The meeting, held on July 14, was attended by the government's working group led by Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, Dr. Pheung Sakuna, along with provincial authorities. The meeting saw the participation of approximately 325 individuals, including senior members of the government working group, provincial council members, deputy governors, commanders of the three forces, and administrators of districts and municipalities across the province. Svay Rieng Governor Peng Porsat provided a brief overview of the key achievements made by the provincial administration and the government working group in the province, under the correct leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet. These achievements include the implementation of the provincial development plan, the three-year rolling investment program, and the annual provincial development projects. The governor emphasized that the contributions from ministries, institutions, the government working group, development partners, philanthropists, all levels of line departments and authorities, and the citizens of the province have been crucial for continuous progress and accomplishments. Furthermore, the provincial administration has continued to promote the implementation of the 'Safe Village-Commune' program and the government's reform programs, while enhancing the efficiency and transparency of public service delivery to citizens through the one-stop service mechanism. Dr. Pheung Sakuna, the head of the government working group for Svay Rieng Province, expressed her admiration and high evaluation for the working group's dedicated efforts in fulfilling their roles and responsibilities at the local level, including their active participation in local development. The Minister outlined several key directions for the second half of the year. These include the continued dissemination of the 'Pentagon Strategy Phase 1' and various reform programs launched by the Cambodian government and relevant ministries and institutions. She also instructed the government working groups at the district, municipality, commune, and village levels in Svay Rieng Province to prepare plans for local visits and public forums to directly understand the concerns, challenges, and requests of the citizens, ensuring timely and effective responses based on existing laws and regulations. Additionally, she called for continued efforts to prevent issues such as online scams, drug trafficking, and juvenile delinquency, to enhance responsibility and accountability in performing duties to serve the interests and needs of the citizens with transparency, and to mobilize resources from the private sector, philanthropists, and other stakeholders to contribute to economic and social development and further progress in the province. This meeting is seen as part of the Cambodian government's efforts to strengthen cooperation between the central government and local authorities, aiming for the sustainable development of Svay Rieng Province. The emphasis on listening to the voices of the people and addressing specific issues is particularly noteworthy.
