Cambodia and China High on Security Cooperation Progress

On the afternoon of September 23, 2026, at the Peace Palace, Samdech Moha Bovor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received H.E. Yang Weilin, Vice Minister of Public Security of the People's Republic of China, and his delegation. The meeting took place during their participation in the International Conference on Combating Cyber Fraud from September 22-25, 2026. During the meeting, the Vice Minister expressed his profound gratitude to Samdech Thipadei for allocating his busy schedule to grant a meeting and discuss work with him and the delegation. He also conveyed greetings from H.E. Xi Jinping, President, and H.E. Li Qiang, Premier, of the People's Republic of China, to Samdech Thipadei. Concurrently, the Vice Minister praised Cambodia's rapid development in all sectors, which has further improved the living standards of its people. He highlighted the progress in bilateral relations and cooperation, which have been continuously strengthened and expanded through the promotion of building the Cambodia-China Community of Shared Future in the New Era and the elevation of the "2+2" dialogue to "3+3", adding the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China. The Vice Minister also emphasized the importance of further close bilateral cooperation, especially in jointly combating cross-border crimes and cyber fraud. In response, Samdech Thipadei expressed his pleasure in meeting and discussing work with the Vice Minister and his delegation. Samdech Thipadei thanked the Chinese government and people for their continuous support for Cambodia's socio-economic development and expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between Cambodia and China, including strengthening security, information sharing, and enhancing the capacity building of Cambodian law enforcement officials. Regarding the crackdown on cyber fraud, Samdech Thipadei affirmed the government's commitment to eradicating it from Cambodian territory. He added that Cambodia cannot tackle this issue alone and requires cooperation from partner countries and stakeholders. Furthermore, Samdech Thipadei also raised Cambodia-China cooperation in promoting tourism and enhancing people-to-people relations, particularly in attracting more Chinese tourists to visit Cambodia, emphasizing that Cambodia is a safe, warm, and welcoming tourist destination for its people.
