Investigation Underway in Cambodia Following Bank Employee's Murder in Alleged Robbery

Authorities in Cambodia are intensifying their investigation into a robbery-homicide case in Kampot province, where the identity of the victim, a bank employee, has been confirmed. The victim has been identified as Ao Putthrey, a 34-year-old Cambodian national working at the Tnal Totung branch of the Postal Bank. He hailed from Takeo province and was residing in Kampong Speu province. The incident occurred along National Road 51 in Angsnoul district. Initial police findings suggest that the perpetrators stole the victim's motorcycle, a Honda Dream C125, and a bag containing work-related documents before fleeing the scene. Based on this, police are strongly considering the possibility that the motive was robbery. Examinations revealed that the victim sustained a stab wound to the lower right chest, approximately 6x2 centimeters, along with numerous abrasions on his right elbow, right wrist, left hand, right knee, and both legs. At the time of the incident, the Deputy Chief of the Angsnoul District Police Inspectorate was on patrol when he received a report from an acquaintance about a group of individuals and two motorcycles engaged in a fight near a cashew plantation. Upon rushing to the scene, the deputy chief discovered the victim lying on the side of National Road 51 with severe injuries. The victim succumbed to his wounds within minutes of being found. Police have cordoned off the area and are collaborating with the Criminal Investigation Department and the Forensic Science Office of the Kandal Provincial Police to conduct a scene investigation and autopsy.
