New German Ambassador to Cambodia Pledges to Strengthen Bilateral Relations

H.E. Silke Röfer, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Kingdom of Cambodia, has pledged to make every effort to further strengthen the relations between Cambodia and Germany during her tenure. This was disclosed by H.E. Chea Thireach, Spokesperson of the Senate, following a courtesy call and presentation of credentials by H.E. Silke Röfer to H.E. Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on the afternoon of September 15, 2026, at the Senate's Peace Palace. During the meeting, H.E. Hun Sen, on behalf of His Majesty the King, congratulated H.E. Silke Röfer on her appointment as the German Ambassador to Cambodia. He expressed his hope that her presence would lead to stronger and deeper relations between Cambodia and Germany. For her part, H.E. Silke Röfer expressed her gratitude to H.E. Hun Sen for granting her the audience and presenting her credentials. She stated that during her mission, she would strive to promote economic and trade sectors between the two countries, particularly by attracting German businesspeople to invest in Cambodia. H.E. Hun Sen expressed his satisfaction with Ambassador Röfer's remarks, especially regarding the strengthening of economic, trade, and investment sectors. He considered economic, trade, and investment as the core of bilateral relations and was pleased with the continuous growth in trade between the two countries. He noted that Germany is an important trading partner for Cambodia in the European region, with bilateral trade volume reaching US$3 billion in the past and expected to increase further.
