Cambodia and Mauritania Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Relations
Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn met with Mauritanian Minister Moctar Lam, who oversees the government's General Secretariat, to discuss strengthening bilateral relations. Discussions also covered Cambodia's role as host of the upcoming Francophonie Summit and expanding cooperation in economic and cultural fields.
On the afternoon of July 14, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, Prak Sokhonn, held a courtesy call with Moctar Lam, Minister in charge of the General Secretariat of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. Minister Lam was on a working visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia from July 13-15, 2026. Minister Moctar Lam congratulated Cambodia on hosting the 20th Francophonie Summit. The Minister in charge of the General Secretariat highly valued Cambodia's efforts to strengthen and expand bilateral and multilateral relations, especially among member states of the International Organisation of La Francophonie. Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn warmly welcomed the working visit of the Mauritanian delegation to the Kingdom of Cambodia. As the host of the 20th Francophonie Summit, scheduled for November 2026, Cambodia is committed not only to promoting cooperation in economic, trade, investment, education, tourism, and cultural sectors within the French-speaking region, but also to expanding the potential of these sectors to the world. Both sides also exchanged views on potential areas for bilateral cooperation, international cooperation, and regional and international issues of common concern, with a particular focus on the necessity of maintaining international order based on the rule of law and respect for international law, peaceful dispute resolution, and sustainable development.
