Female Driver Fined VND 35 Million for Reversing on Expressway

A female driver in Vietnam was fined VND 35 million (approximately $1,400 USD) and had 10 penalty points deducted from her driver's license for reversing on the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway. The incident occurred on August 2nd when the 45-year-old driver, a resident of Khanh Hoa province, missed her intended exit at the Cho Lo interchange in Hai Ninh commune. According to the highway traffic police, the driver decided to reverse approximately 500 meters south of the interchange to quickly return to her exit. Highway traffic police patrol units spotted the car reversing and immediately intervened. Expressway traffic police stated that reversing on an expressway is extremely dangerous due to the high speeds of other vehicles, which significantly increases the risk of severe accidents. Authorities reiterated that drivers who miss their exit should proceed to the next interchange to turn back, rather than attempting to reverse or make a U-turn on the expressway. This incident highlights the critical importance of driver vigilance and adherence to traffic regulations on high-speed roads, especially as Vietnam's expressway network continues to expand.
