Jakarta National Assembly Declares 5 Commitments for Unity

Around 11,000 participants gathered at the National Monument (Monas) square in Jakarta on Saturday (8/8) for the "Jaga Jakarta untuk Indonesia" (Guard Jakarta for Indonesia) National Assembly. The event, aimed at strengthening unity and ensuring the safety of Jakarta and Indonesia as a whole, saw participants read out five declarations. The assembly included members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), various mass organizations (ORMAS), online motorcycle taxi drivers, and laborers, reflecting a broad cross-section of society. This activity served as a moment for collective action to reinforce national unity and maintain Jakarta as a safe, comfortable, and conducive city. It also symbolized the synergy between the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya), the Jaya Regional Military Command (Kodam Jaya), the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, and various community elements. The National Assembly was led by the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief, Komjen Pol Asep Edi Suheri, and the Jaya Regional Military Commander, Letjen TNI Deddy Suryadi. The reading of the declarations was symbolically carried out by representatives from each participating community element. The five declarations announced included commitments to: 1. Uphold Jakarta as a safe, orderly, peaceful, and comfortable home for all its residents and a showcase of Indonesia to the world. 2. Unite in diversity (Kebhinekaan), rejecting all forms of provocation, intolerance, violence, and division that could disrupt national unity. 3. Strengthen mutual cooperation and collaboration between the government, TNI, Polri, the business world, youth communities, and all citizens in safeguarding Jakarta. 4. Protect the nation's youth and future from drugs, crime, radicalism, and various negative influences by building a healthy, productive, and character-driven environment. 5. Defend Jakarta for Indonesia with discipline, care, tolerance, and national spirit, contributing to a progressive Jakarta and a sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia.
