Naypyidaw Military Council Instructs Units to Install Nets to Defend Against Insurgent FPV Drones

Yangon, June 30 The Naypyidaw Military Council has genuinely instructed military units to install nets at their bases and facilities to defend against FPV drones used by revolutionary forces, according to a Naypyidaw military source and CDM Major Zin Yaw, who spoke to Yangon Khit Thit News Agency. Following the widespread use of FPV drones by revolutionary forces across Myanmar, a Mi-17 military helicopter that arrived as reinforcement in Mying Village, Mying Town, Magway Region on June 23rd of this year was successfully attacked and destroyed by two FPV drones belonging to the revolutionary forces. After this destruction, it is understood that the Naypyidaw Military Council issued instructions to install nets to defend against FPV drones. "Nets are to be installed in the military offices, armories, bunkers, and meeting halls of the military units. The instructions also state not to use dark-colored nets," said the Naypyidaw military source. CDM Major Zin Yaw stated that the military's instruction to use nets to defend against FPV drones is correct, and that close-quarters combat training with soldiers holding nets during helicopter landings is even being conducted. "These are the ad-hoc plans of the military generals. Since air transport is the main mode of transportation, helicopters and aircraft can only land after the ground commander provides assurance. They fear that if air support is cut off, the situation will arise where they have to surrender as before, so this is a hasty strategy," explained CDM Major Zin Yaw. He further explained that forcing the use of low-cost nets to defend against FPV drones during unit and helicopter landings is a hasty tactic and does not consider the danger to the lives of ground soldiers. "Military generals tend to hastily implement such low-cost strategies. While they can prevent aircraft from being hit, they do not consider the danger to the lives of the soldiers who are carrying out the defense," CDM Major Zin Yaw further explained. On May 20, 2025, near Banmaw Town in Kachin State, two of three Military Council helicopters that arrived as reinforcement were attacked by KIA with FPV drones.
