Justice Ministry Denies Discrimination Against Rong Chhun's Complaint
Cambodia's Ministry of Justice spokesperson has refuted claims by Rong Chhun that his complaint was rejected, asserting that all legal submissions are reviewed impartially. Chhun's petition is currently undergoing procedural examination by relevant officials.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice, Em Chanmakara, has refuted claims made by Rong Chhun that the ministry rejected his complaint. He clarified that the ministry does not discriminate against any legal submissions and that all petitions and requests for intervention from citizens are carefully examined. Speaking on social media on August 6, Em Chanmakara stated that Rong Chhun's intervention request letter, submitted to the ministry a month prior, is currently in the examination phase by specialized officials and is being processed according to legal procedures, just like any other document from the public. "As a public state institution, we always open our doors to welcome and accept all complaints or requests for intervention from citizens and all relevant parties without any discrimination. All such complaints or intervention requests receive careful examination and are processed in accordance with administrative procedures. The Ministry of Justice responds and resolves them within the scope of its legal authority after thorough review and investigation by specialized officials," he said. On July 1, Rong Chhun, an advisor to the Cambodian National Force Party, submitted a letter requesting the ministry to review the case where the Supreme Court upheld the Court of Appeal's decision to sentence him to four years in prison and ban him from politics. In another letter dated August 5, Rong Chhun urged Deputy Prime Minister Kert Rith to expedite the resolution, stating that he had not yet received any response or solution from the Ministry of Justice after more than a month. Em Chanmakara reiterated that the ministry is carefully reviewing Rong Chhun's complaint and will respond after the specialized officials have completed their examination and investigation.
