Cambodia: Hun Many Awards Scholarships to Top-Scoring High School Students

In Kampong Speu province, 31 students who achieved excellent results in the high school graduation examination received encouragement awards from Deputy Prime Minister Hun Many, Minister of Public Function and Head of the Kampong Speu Provincial Working Group. The ceremony was held on the morning of September 20, 2026, at the Provincial Department of Education, Youth, and Sports. Governor of Kampong Speu, Cham Chansophann, stated that under the umbrella of peace, development, and global technological progress, the knowledge gained from the diligent study of teachers and students, along with the support of parents and guardians, and the encouragement from leaders at all levels, has continuously fostered the development of the education, youth, and sports sector in Kampong Speu. He further elaborated that for the 2025-2026 academic year's high school graduation examination, Kampong Speu had a total of 6,036 candidates, with 3,449 being female. Of these, 5,222 candidates passed, including 3,158 females, representing an 86.51% pass rate. Notably, 31 students, including 22 females, achieved an 'A' grade. Deputy Prime Minister Hun Many praised the students who received 'A' grades, acknowledging their achievement as a result of their strong will, clear goal setting, perseverance through obstacles, and diligent study to meet the aspirations of themselves, their teachers, and especially their guardians for their success both now and in the future. He continued, stating that under the intelligent leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Thip Thip Hun Manet, the education sector is receiving significant attention. The Prime Minister has instructed the Ministry of Education and educational programs to build human resources that meet the demands of the job market in the digital era and the skilled economy. The Deputy Prime Minister appealed to the leadership of the Department of Education, Youth, and Sports, the principals of the 26 high schools, teachers, and the authorities of all districts and communes to continue encouraging students who did not pass this year. He urged them not to be discouraged but to strive harder for next year's exams or to pursue technical vocational training through the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training and relevant institutions. This would equip them with specific skills for easier employment and a stable career, enabling them to support their families and become good children, students, and youth for the nation. It is noteworthy that the Deputy Prime Minister awarded each of the 31 'A' grade students a computer and one million Riel (approximately $250 USD). The top three highest-scoring students in the province each received a motorcycle. Furthermore, high schools with pass rates between 80%-90% received 3 million Riel, 90%-98% received 7 million Riel, and 98%-100% received 12 million Riel in financial support. Students who achieved 'A' grades received an additional 500,000 Riel (approximately $125 USD).
