Indonesian Youth Dance Team 'We R The Future' Secures 3rd Place at Singapore International Competition

The Indonesian youth dance team 'We R The Future' (WATF) has achieved a remarkable feat on the international stage, securing 3rd place in the Junior Dance Showcase category at the Lion City Dance Convention (LCDC) 2026 held in Singapore. This prestigious Asian-level competition saw young dancers aged 10 to 17 from various countries participating. In their debut international appearance, We R The Future successfully broke into the top three, competing against 20 finalist teams. This achievement is credited to the hard work of eight young Indonesian dancers: Gia, Nafa, Grania, Michelle, Puella, Queela, Abel, and Raisha, who have been training under the guidance of choreographer and coach Semmy "Blank" Soplanit. Semmy revealed that the Lion City Dance Convention had long been a targeted international competition for his proteges. He believes it serves not only as an arena to gain experience but also as an opportunity to achieve recognition at the Asian level. "Praise be to God, on this occasion, which is WATF's first international competition, the children managed to secure 3rd position out of 20 finalist teams competing," Semmy Soplanit stated, as quoted by Antara. He expressed gratitude for the team's accomplishment on their international debut. He hopes that this achievement will serve as a motivation for all team members to continue developing and to bring honor to Indonesia on the international stage. "Hopefully, this competition will bring new spirit for us, to be able to achieve, to make parents, family, and Indonesia proud," he added. The success of We R The Future is proof that Indonesian young talent is capable of competing at the Asian level. This victory is expected to be the beginning of more achievements on the international stage and to inspire the younger generation to continue creating and pursuing their dreams through the world of dance. Street dance is considered a competitive athletic sport that combines elements of art, urban cultural creativity, and high athletic ability. Globally, the discipline of street dance falls under the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF). Breaking (Breakdance), one of the most iconic street dance styles, successfully made its historic debut as an official sport at the Paris 2024 Olympics, competing for medals.
