Vietnam has emerged as an increasingly important driver of regional economic integration over the past three decades, with two-way trade with ASEAN soaring to approximately 91 billion USD in 2025 from only 3.26 billion USD in 1995. Against this backdrop, experts suggest that collaboration between India and Japan could bring new opportunities to the ASEAN region, particularly for Vietnam. Dr. Arisman, Executive Director of the Centre for Southeast Asian Studies, told a Vietnam News Agency correspondent that strengthening ties between India and Japan could further deepen regional economic integration and benefit participating countries. Specific areas of cooperation include the digital economy, infrastructure development, and renewable energy, all of which align with Vietnam's economic growth strategies. Under its one-party system, Vietnam continues to promote a socialist-oriented market economy and actively attract foreign investment. While China remains a significant economic partner, there is an accelerating trend towards diversifying supply chains and mitigating geopolitical risks. In this context, deepening cooperation with India, in addition to long-standing economic ties with Japan, is considered crucial for Vietnam to enhance its economic resilience. Experts analyze that the opportunities arising from India-Japan collaboration are expected to extend beyond trade and investment, with potential spillover effects in technology transfer and human resource development.
