Cambodia: Two Jewel Robbery Suspects Arrested After 20-Day Fugitive Spree

In Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, two suspects in a jewel robbery case have been arrested. The incident is related to a robbery that occurred approximately 20 days prior, and the suspects had been on the run to evade capture. The arrested individuals have been identified as Yi Bunna, 24, and Sok Phirun, 24, neither of whom has a stable occupation. They are suspected of robbing a passerby of jewelry along a concrete road in Sre Chumrou village, Chom Chao 2nd Sangkat, Por Senchey District, on July 18, 2026. Following the incident, the suspects fled on motorcycles. However, a joint investigation team comprising the Chom Chao 2nd Police Station and the Phnom Penh Municipal Police's Light Crime Department initiated a pursuit. After an investigation lasting about 20 days, both suspects were apprehended on August 6. Police confiscated two motorcycles believed to have been used in the crime: a Honda Dream C125 (license plate: Kampong Cham 1AS-1894) and a Honda Suzuki Nex (license plate: Phnom Penh 1MK-8992). Both suspects are currently being held at the police station with the evidence for questioning and legal proceedings. This case highlights the rising crime rates in Phnom Penh and the intensified efforts by the police to crack down on such activities. With Cambodia's economic development, an increase in urban crime has become a social concern, and authorities are working to maintain public safety.
