Teenager Arrested for Felling Nearly 100 Rubber Trees

In Rung commune, Memot district, Tboung Khmum province, Cambodia, a 17-year-old boy has been arrested and sent to the prosecutor's office for allegedly felling nearly 100 rubber trees on a plantation. The incident came to light on August 5th, following a complaint filed by the owner of the rubber plantation, Yom Ly, 51, a resident of Bos village, Rung commune. The damage, which occurred on the evening of August 4th at Yom Ly's rubber farm in Bos village, Rung commune, reportedly involved the destruction of 80 rubber trees using a knife. The suspect, identified as Cheng Putthy, 17, a Khmer national also residing in Bos village, acted without a known motive. Local police, upon receiving the complaint, dispatched officers from the Memot District Police Inspectorate and the Rung Commune Police Post to the scene. An investigation led to the apprehension of the suspect, who was then brought to the Memot District Police Inspectorate for questioning. The suspect reportedly confessed to committing the act. The arrest was carried out under the command of the Provincial Police Commissioner and with the permission of Un Sovannthany, Deputy Prosecutor of the Tboung Khmum Provincial Court, to build a case according to legal procedures.
