Vietnam Strengthens ASEAN Ties with Multifaceted Approach to Culture, Economy, Security

Vietnam is pursuing a multifaceted approach to strengthen cooperation within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), as its 11th member. Through collaboration across a broad spectrum of areas including culture, economy, and security, Vietnam aims to enhance its standing in the international community and achieve sustainable development goals. In terms of culture, in light of the designation of 2027–2036 as the International Decade of Culture for Sustainable Development, Vietnam is promoting the preservation of cultural heritage and its integration into development policies. This reflects Vietnam's stance of positioning culture as a crucial element of development. Economically, efforts are underway to share expertise in the agricultural sector and streamline regulations to attract investment. Furthermore, the launch of direct flights to Hanoi by an Indian airline is expected to bolster economic ties between Vietnam and India. The deepening economic relationship with Mexico also highlights Vietnam's increasing importance in Asian production and supply chains. On the security front, initiatives are being implemented to ensure domestic stability and protect citizens, such as the national campaign against online scams. These activities can be understood within the context of maintaining social order and ensuring the safety of citizens' lives under Vietnam's one-party system. Moreover, the deepening of comprehensive strategic partnerships with countries like Russia and France is part of Vietnam's diplomatic strategy to establish a unique position on the international stage. The strengthening of relations with Russia, in particular, demonstrates Vietnam's diplomatic flexibility amidst significant geopolitical shifts. Friendly relations with neighboring countries such as Laos and Cambodia are also indispensable elements for regional stability. These endeavors by Vietnam are expected to contribute to the overall development and stability of the ASEAN region, while underscoring Vietnam's constructive role on the global stage.
