Vietnam Launches AI Platform to Enhance Farm Produce Traceability

Vietnam has launched an AI-powered traceability platform to strengthen the tracking of its farm produce, a move seen as crucial for achieving its ambitious agricultural, forestry, and fishery export target of over US$74 billion by 2026. The initiative will initially focus on key export commodities, high-value products, and major markets such as the EU, the US, and China. Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung lauded the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for developing and operationalizing the system, stating that it would enhance transparency across the agricultural supply chain, enable product origin tracing, and help safeguard the quality and reputation of Vietnamese agricultural products in international markets. Vietnam currently has approximately 3.4 million exemplary farming households. However, becoming a successful entrepreneur requires not only production expertise but also modern management skills, market analysis capabilities, financial management knowledge, and digital competencies. The government plans to prioritize attracting high-quality investments, particularly those capable of driving innovation, technology transfer, workforce development, and wider economic spillover effects. This development is part of Vietnam's broader strategy to transition from a labor-intensive economy to one focused on higher value-added activities. Recent Politburo Resolution No. 10-NQ/TW, which recognizes the foreign-invested sector as a vital component of the national economy, signals a significant shift in the country's investment attraction strategy, moving away from prioritizing labor-intensive projects towards those that drive technological progress, innovation, and sustainable development. Enhancing agricultural export traceability is a key pillar supporting Vietnam's economic growth and its deeper integration into global value chains. The AI platform is expected to be a critical step in building the safety and reliability of its produce, thereby gaining the trust of international buyers. Vietnam is also advancing its digital transformation efforts, including managing fishing vessel information and utilizing electronic fishing logbook systems in its rural areas.
