Ho Chi Minh City Plans Port Relocation Away from Residential Areas

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's southern economic hub, has revealed plans to gradually relocate its port areas away from residential zones. This initiative aims to improve the urban environment and enhance logistics efficiency. According to a representative from the city's Department of Construction, at a press conference on socio-economic issues held on July 23, the city will progressively develop freight transport routes with high carrying capacity. Vehicles will be gradually diverted to ring roads, expressways, and dedicated connection routes. This relocation plan is seen as a significant step in Ho Chi Minh City's economic growth and urban development. The move of port functions to suburban areas is expected to contribute to easing traffic congestion and improving air quality in the city center. Furthermore, the relocated areas are anticipated to strengthen their roles as new logistics hubs. Ho Chi Minh City has achieved rapid economic growth in the past through the establishment of economic zones and infrastructure development. However, issues such as strained transportation infrastructure and environmental problems have also emerged with the advancement of urbanization.
