Cambodia Accelerates Electric Vehicle National Strategy Development

Cambodia is accelerating the development of its national strategy, legal frameworks, and policies aimed at managing and developing electric vehicles (EVs). On July 28, 2026, Minister of Public Works and Transport, Peng Ponea, presided over the 6th meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Technical Committee. This committee is tasked with formulating legal regulations, policies, and national strategies for the management and development of EVs. The meeting was attended by leaders from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, representatives from relevant ministries and institutions, municipal and provincial administrations, and numerous public officials. This meeting is part of an ongoing effort to monitor, supervise, and evaluate the implementation of the National Policy on Electric Vehicle Industry Development 2024-2030. Specifically, the implementation progress during the first half of 2026 was reviewed. This initiative signifies Cambodia's commitment to transitioning towards a sustainable transportation system and strengthening the development of its domestic EV ecosystem. The establishment of legal regulations is expected to promote EV adoption, foster related industries, and contribute to reducing environmental impact.
