In Siem Reap, Cambodia, Mahaupasak Chan Sokhon and his family, driven by profound religious devotion, donated 5 tons of rice to the monks residing at Wat Svay Rumiet in the Water Bill commune, Siem Reap city, on the morning of July 28, 2026. This act of generosity is intended to significantly contribute to alleviating the daily food burden of the monks, particularly during the three-month rainy season retreat. Phra Satchanupal Nuom Vuthy, the abbot of Wat Svay Rumiet, along with all the monks, expressed their deepest gratitude for the charitable spirit and sincere faith of Mahaupasika and her family. The abbot further stated that this benevolent gesture not only makes a substantial contribution to sustaining Buddhism in Cambodia but also serves as an exemplary model of sharing and accumulating noble merit for oneself and one's family. In Buddhism, monks are required to observe the rainy season retreat (Vassa) within their respective temples for three months, from the first day of the waning moon of Asalha to the full moon of the waxing moon of Ashoj. During this period, monks are generally not permitted to travel far from the temple unless for essential reasons. Throughout this Vassa period, Buddhist devotees, both male and female lay followers, customarily make offerings of food, daily necessities, and other provisions to the monks to support their studies and adherence to monastic discipline.
