Ho Chi Minh City Attracts High-Value FDI, Accelerating Growth and Innovation Hub Status

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's largest economic hub in the south, has attracted over 6.8 billion USD in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first half of 2026. This marks a key step for the city in directing high-quality investment into strategic industries and international finance, thereby solidifying its position as a regional innovation hub. Notably, major banks and technology corporations are showing interest in investing in the Ho Chi Minh City International Financial Center, creating new opportunities to attract global capital. Furthermore, VNG, a leading Vietnamese technology company, has contributed to the Ho Chi Minh City Venture Capital Fund to foster the technology startup ecosystem. This demonstrates the proactive engagement of the private sector in enhancing domestic innovation capabilities. In addition, as a foundation to support economic growth, Ho Chi Minh City has initiated large-scale infrastructure projects totaling over 263 trillion VND (more than 1 trillion JPY), simultaneously advancing urban development and preparing the future investment environment. These investments are crucial elements for the Vietnamese economy to transition to a higher value-added industrial structure and enhance its international competitiveness. Under its one-party system, Vietnam prioritizes economic growth, with FDI attraction being a key policy tool. In recent years, Vietnam has actively sought investment in high value-added industries and advanced technology sectors, aiming to move beyond labor-intensive manufacturing. Geopolitical dynamics with China, against the backdrop of supply chain realignments, are also factors encouraging investment in Vietnam.
