Under its one-party system, Laos bases its foreign and economic policies on close ties with these two nations. Recent trends in international economic security dialogues suggest that Laos recognizes the importance of international cooperation in advanced technology sectors such as artificial intelligence and semiconductors. These areas are crucial for diversifying and modernizing Laos's economy. The Lao government prioritizes economic growth and poverty reduction, making infrastructure development, investment attraction, and expansion of regional trade essential for achieving these goals. In particular, large-scale infrastructure investments from China significantly contribute to Laos's economic development, while also posing challenges such as increasing debt to China.
