Tropical Depression North of Vietnam May Intensify, Authorities Urge Vigilance

A tropical depression located in the Gulf of Tonkin, north of Vietnam, has the potential to intensify, prompting the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting to issue warnings. As of 7 AM on August 8, the center of the tropical depression was located at approximately 19.7 degrees North latitude and 108.8 degrees East longitude, over the sea east of the Gulf of Tonkin. Initially, this tropical depression was assessed as having a low probability of strengthening. However, the situation has evolved. Past reports indicated the tropical depression had developed into "Typhoon No. 3" and had strengthened to gusts of force 9. Nevertheless, the latest forecast suggests the tropical depression over the Gulf of Tonkin is "unlikely to become a typhoon." Vietnam, due to its geography, is susceptible to tropical depressions and typhoons. Coastal areas, particularly in the north, face concerns regarding the impacts of meteorological changes.
