PM Hun Manet Meets Huawei Executive to Discuss Digital Talent and AI Utilization

On the afternoon of September 23, 2026, at the Peace Palace, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received Mr. Wang Xu, President of Huawei for the Southeast Asia Multi-Country Region, for a courtesy call and working discussion. During the meeting, Mr. Wang expressed his sincere gratitude to the Prime Minister for granting him and his colleagues the opportunity to meet and discuss. He highly valued Cambodia's progress in all sectors, particularly the launch of 5G mobile services and the increase in renewable energy usage. He also expressed satisfaction with the excellent cooperation in the technology sector with relevant ministries and reported on the company's contribution to human resource development in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector. This includes providing training courses for leading officials and Train-the-Trainer (ToT) programs to further train students. Furthermore, Mr. Wang shared the company's experience in using technology systems, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI), to track and identify perpetrators of online fraud. He also highlighted the development of a digital economic ecosystem for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and the importance of digital data protection and human resource development in the digital field. In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his pleasure in meeting with the Huawei President. He agreed on the importance of digital human resources but also pointed out certain risks associated with AI technology that require high attention from all stakeholders. Regarding the crackdown on technology-based fraud, the Prime Minister emphasized the necessity of strengthening the capacity of law enforcement officers and proactively utilizing technological tools to enhance effectiveness. The Prime Minister reiterated that the Cambodian government always gives high priority to human resource development in this sector, ensuring the safety of AI usage, strengthening cybersecurity, protecting data sovereignty, and promoting technology transfer. Before concluding, the Prime Minister encouraged Mr. Wang to continue discussions and strengthen closer ties with Cambodian ministries and institutions, especially the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, to further deepen cooperation in the technology sector.
