Cambodia Completes Infrastructure Projects in Kampong Thom, Urges Community Maintenance
Cambodia's Ministry of Rural Development conducted handover inspections for two completed road and bridge projects in Kampong Thom province. Residents have been urged to participate in the long-term maintenance of the infrastructure.
The Ministry of Rural Development (MRD) of Cambodia conducted handover inspections on June 26, 2026 (Friday), for two completed infrastructure projects in Kampong Thom province, totaling 2.1 kilometers of roads and bridges. The inspection was led by Dr. Sao Chivath, Secretary of State at the MRD, accompanied by representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Provincial Department of Rural Development. The projects included the upgrading of a 1.1-kilometer road (double asphalt concrete - DBST) from Banteay Sthoung village to Chambok Punhea village in Banteay Sthoung commune, and the rehabilitation of a 2-kilometer road (double asphalt concrete - DBST) from Prey Kuy village to Krab village in Prey Kuy commune, Ak Archareak Lak, Kampong Svay district. These projects were implemented by the Department of Engineering of the Ministry of National Defense. Following the site visit, Dr. Sao Chivath met with residents living along the roads and urged their cooperation in maintaining the completed infrastructure. He specifically requested that overloaded vehicles be restricted from using the roads to preserve their quality and ensure long-term usability. Subsequently, the inter-ministerial committee convened to discuss the project outcomes with contractors and technical experts. They officially accepted the 100% completion for Project 1 and the completion for Project 2. The committee further instructed the contractors to conduct thorough inspections of the roads and bridges for the next 12 months, as per their contracts, to ensure quality, aesthetics, and safety. These infrastructure developments are expected to contribute to the revitalization of the local economy and the improvement of residents' lives. However, maximizing their benefits will depend on continuous maintenance supported by the active participation of each community member. The Cambodian government plans to continue investing in rural development to enhance the quality of life for its citizens.
