Vietnamese President and Party General Secretary To Lam Arrives in New York for UNGA Session, Bilateral Engagements

Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President To Lam arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York on the evening of September 20 (morning of September 20, Hanoi time) to begin his trip to attend the 81st session of the UN General Assembly's High-Level Debate and conduct bilateral activities in the United States. He was welcomed at the airport by Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung and Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, according to VNA. The delegation accompanying General Secretary and President To Lam includes Le Minh Tri, Head of the Central Internal Affairs Committee; Nguyen Thanh Nghi, Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Committee; Phan Van Giang, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense; Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security; Le Hoai Trung, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Nguyen Hai Ninh, Director of the Party Central Office; Ngo Van Tuan, Minister of Finance; Le Manh Hung, Minister of Industry and Trade; and Vu Hai Quan, Minister of Science and Technology, along with many other officials. This marks the second time General Secretary and President To Lam has attended a UN General Assembly session in his capacity as the top leader of the Party and State. The 81st UN General Assembly High-Level Debate is themed "Rebuilding trust and re-energizing global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals." General Secretary and President To Lam is expected to deliver a speech affirming Vietnam's strong support and commitment to the central role of the UN in multilateral cooperation and promoting respect for international law. The relationship between Vietnam and the UN is currently in a period of good and substantive development. From its struggle for independence, Vietnam has now emerged as a particularly trusted partner, making proactive, responsible, and breakthrough contributions across the UN's core pillars. The trip and bilateral activities in the US by General Secretary and President To Lam are expected to help implement the common understandings of the Vietnamese and US senior leaders, and continue to promote the stable, substantive, effective, and sustainable development of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This is also an opportunity for both sides to enhance high-level exchanges, discuss strategic and long-term issues for the relations between the two countries, and strengthen understanding and garner support from various sectors for Vietnam and the Vietnam-US bilateral relationship.
