New Library for Displaced Children in Cambodian Border Area Offers Knowledge and Hope

In Romsam village, located in the border area of Banteay Meanchey Province in northwestern Cambodia, a new library has been established for displaced children. This library, a donation from the South Korean NGO Good People International (GPI), is expected to bring a new light of knowledge and hope to children whose educational opportunities have been limited due to the impacts of conflict. On September 2, 2026, representatives from GPI, along with Banteay Meanchey provincial authorities, inspected the library construction site and prepared for the establishment of a study and research center. This project was initiated in response to the situation where some schools in the border region were damaged by conflict, leading to many children losing their chance to study. Governor Oum Ratry of Banteay Meanchey Province expressed his deep gratitude to GPI for their continuous cooperation with the Royal Government of Cambodia in social development and for promoting the education sector, especially through the donation of this library. The governor stated, "A library is not just a place to store books, but a center of knowledge, a place to cultivate a love for reading, and a foundation for children to build their future." He emphasized that GPI's support provides knowledge, hope, and new opportunities for the children of Romsam village. He further added that developing the education sector, particularly in difficult areas, is a priority for the Cambodian government, and he is confident that knowledgeable children will become a significant force for national development in the future. The new library will offer students opportunities to read books, gather information, develop their skills, and cultivate a habit of reading, which is a crucial foundation for lifelong learning. Simultaneously, it will create a conducive learning environment and serve as a bridge of hope between the children, the community, and a brighter future. GPI is an international non-governmental organization that implements numerous projects aimed at poverty reduction, inequality reduction, and empowering vulnerable communities to develop their potential. The construction of this library in Romsam village is an example of humanitarian spirit and a meaningful contribution to building the future for Cambodian children.
